Addressing the elephant in the room

Roger Goodell finally acted this week on anthem protest, Buc Gerald McCoy promises uproar

Goodell Finally acts

Roger Goodell finally acts this week on the national anthem protest. After two years of weak apologetic leadership Goodell made a slight attempt at having a set of balls.

In a strongly worded memo to the league’s team owners, Goodell wrote that “we believe that everyone should stand for the National Anthem” and that the league wanted “to honor our flag and our country, and our fans expect that of us.”

It is funny how Goodell attempted to grow some balls after this Monday night game ratings were down 17% from the previous week that was down 3% and a season low. The Chiefs Texans Monday Night Game on October 2 was the day after the Las Vegas massacre. It saw Chiefs cornerback Marcus Peters sitting on the bench with the flag half staff for Vegas victims.

The American pubic is fed up with the NFL anthem protest but until this week Goodell hasn’t had the balls to do anything about it. This week with ratings continuing to decline  Goodell finally acts and one player Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive tackle Gerald McCoy is not happy. McCoy , stopped just short of promising open player revolt.if Goodell’s recommendations become a league rule.

“If you take (protesting the anthem) away from them, there’s gonna be an uproar,” McCoy told ESPN’s Adam Schefter

“I don’t think guys are gonna like it,” McCoy continued. “I think it’s gonna be an uproar if that is to happen because you’re basically taking away a constitutional right to freedom of speech. If guys wanna have a, I guess you would call it a peaceful protest, I don’t think it’s right to take that away.”

McCoy, an eight-year veteran, isn’t one of the kneeling contingent, surprisingly enough. However he appears to be as out of touch as the rest of the NFL. Roger Goodell had the opportunity to act on the protest when Colin Kaepernick was a lone stupid wolf protesting something that isn’t happening (police targeting poor innocent completely virtuous young black boys). But he didn’t. Now Goodell finally acts and it could be too late.
