The future of the Democrat party is young Socialist according to DNC Chair, Moderates have lost the party
Democratic National Committee (DNC) Chairman Tom Perez said young Socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez represents the “future of our party” on Tuesday.
I have three kids. Two of them are daughters — one just graduated college, one who is in college. And they were both texting me about their excitement over Alexandria because she really — she represents the future of our party,” Perez said on “The Bill Press Show.”
Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year-old self-proclaimed democratic socialist and organizer with Sen. Bernie Sanders’s (I-Vt.) presidential campaign, rose to fame after defeating incumbent Rep. Joseph Crowley (D) in a stunning primary upset last week.
Crowley was the No. 4 House Democrat and seen as a potential Speaker.
Perez on Tuesday added that he had “great respect” for Crowley, calling him a “good Democrat” who “fought the good fight.”
Ocasio-Cortez ran on a progressive platform that included calls to abolish Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Nancy Pelosi which represents the old guard of the Democrat party and has been the chief fundraiser by far last week cautioned against reading too much into the young Socialist victory.
“They made a choice in one district” Pelosi said in the clip, recorded at a Tuesday press conference. “So, let’s not get yourself carried away as an expert on demographics and the rest of that. We have an array of genders, generations, geography and the rest — opinion — in our caucus, and we’re very proud of that.
To which Ocasio-Cortez responded with a message of diversity.
“Yeah, well, you know, I think that we’re in the middle of a movement in this country,” she said. “I feel this movement, but that movement is going to happen from the bottom up. That movement is going to come from voters.”
“There are a lot of really exciting races with extremely similar dynamics as mine,” she added. “It’s not just one district.”
Asked whether the Democratic leadership’s advanced age presented a problem for the party, Ocasio-Cortez emphasized the importance of party diversity. “I do think that we do need to elect a generation of new people to Congress in both parties….We have to have a diversity of age represented in Congress, too,” she said.
Ocasio-Cortez was asked on MSNBC if she thought Nancy Pelosi should be speaker. She answered “she is a candidate to consider.” Opps Nancy Pelosi a candidate to consider?
“I think it’s far too early to make those kinds of commitments right now,” she said, adding that Democrats “need to just focus on winning in November first and then we’ll have the conversation about our leadership.”
Ocasio-Cortez went on to say “I think it’s far too early to make those kinds of commitments right now,” she said, adding that Democrats “need to just focus on winning in November first and then we’ll have the conversation about our leadership.”
It is clear that young Socialist have taken over the Democrat party. When old party warhorses such as Dianne Feinstein are being challenged as not being left leaning enough and Nancy Pelosi and Maxine Waters are going extreme left the party has been lost to the crazies and Socialist. No longer is the Democrat Party the party of the blue collar working man.
