London overtakes New York in number of murders for the first time even with strict gun laws
London has overtaken New York for the number of murders for the first time. This in spite of very strict gun laws that do not allow residence to own a handgun without very good reason.
In February London had a surge in knife murders with a total of 15 compared to 14 murders in New York City. Both cities have the exact same population 8.5 million residence.
Numbers are not official yet but it appears for March London will also have more murders than New York City with 22 compared to 21 in New York.
London has witnessed a sharp increase in murders since 2014, Even excluding victims of terrorism, the number of those killed has gone up by 38 percent. Meanwhile, over the past two decades, New York’s rate has gone down by around 87 percent.
A spokesperson for the London Metropolitan police told the Independent that there is worry about the increased number of murders.
“London remains one of the safest cities in the world,” the spokesperson said. “The Met is concerned at the increase in murders in London, and specialist detectives from the Met’s Homicide and Major Crime Command are investigating.
“One murder is one to many, and we are working hard with our partners to understand the increase and what we can all do to prevent these tragedies from happening in the first place.”
The UK has very tough gun control laws that make it practically impossible to own a handgun. You have to fill out endless paperwork and prove why you need a handgun it is not a right. In the absence of guns it appears criminals just kill each other with knives. Where evil is present the criminals in any society will find a way to be evil.
