Senior North Korean official heading to New York to continue negotiations for denuclearization
Senior North Korean official Vice Chairman Kim Yong Chol’s is headed to New York as on going meetings between North Korea and the United States continue. It is believed that South Korea has a bit of a different agenda than the US in the talks so we are engaging in more direct talks with this visit.
The President tweeted this morning “We have put a great team together for our talks with North Korea. Meetings are currently taking place concerning Summit, and more. Kim Youn Choi, the Vice Chairman of North Korea, heading now to New York. Solid response to my letter, thank you!
Kim Young Choi is the highest ranking North Korean official to visit the United States since 2000, when late National Defense Commission First Vice Chairman Jo Myong Rok visited Washington, South Korea’s Unification Ministry said.
This meeting follows several visits to North Korea by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo with Kim Jong un after which he said there was a “shared understanding” between the two sides about what they hope to achieve in the summit. It remained unclear whom Kim Yong Chol will meet in the United States.

An advance team of US officials left Seoul today for joint meetings with North Korean officials It is unclear where the meetings will occur. The U.S. officials are led by Sung Kim, the U.S. ambassador to Manila, who formerly was the U.S. ambassador to Seoul and a top negotiator with North Korea in past nuclear talks.
