Breaking Historical News Trump and Kim to meet by May this year
A South Korean official has confirmed that President Trump will meet Kim Jong Un by September. This will be a historic meeting between the two adversaries. President Trump has taken a position of strength with the North Korean dictator and possible it will begin to pay off.
For the past year the two have traded insults Trump calling Kim short and fat and Kim calling Trump a dotard. Had to look that one up. But President Trump showing no fear of the North Korean dictator may be what has prompted a new stance.
South Korean national security director, Chung Eui-yong, told reporters of the planned meeting outside the White House, after briefing Trump and other top U.S. officials about a rare meeting with Kim in the North Korean capital on Monday.
No serving American president has ever met with a North Korean leader. The U.S. and North Korea do not even have formal diplomatic relations. The two nations remain in a state of war because the 1950-53 Korean War ended with an armistice and not a peace treaty.
South Korea had already announced that the North was open to talks of denuclearization again a historic stance from the stubborn regime.
“He (Kim) expressed his eagerness to meet President Trump as soon as possible,” Chung said. “President Trump appreciated the briefing and said he would meet Kim Jong Un by May to achieve permanent denuclearization.”
Chung did not say where the meeting would occur.
Trump campaigned on not allowing North Korea to acquire missiles capable of reaching the US. The rhetoric between the two leaders reached a peak at New Years proclamation by Kim about his nuclear button always being on his desk. Trump responded that he also has a nuclear button and his is accurate.
If an agreement is reached between the two leaders it will be reminiscent of President Reagan’s famous open mic statement that “the bombing will begin in 5 minutes.” The cold war probably ended with that statement.
