Another Congressional scandal ………What a surprise

congressional scandal

Another Congressional scandal what a surprise. Congress has been using taxpayer dollars to settle sexual harassment claims against lawmakers. As much as 17 million dollars has been paid out to victims of abuse by those in Washington. It is said that power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.

President Trump said when he went to the White House he was going to “drain the swamp”. Many in Washington including speaker Paul Ryan and Senate Majority Leader McConnell objected to this statement and requested the President to tone down his rhetoric. This could be because Ryan and McConnell knew full well Trump was including them in “the swamp.

The sexual harassment slush fund comes from a secrete US Treasury fund. The process is explained below.

“The so-called process was clearly drafted to protect the institution rather than the most vulnerable,” Speier told Fox News in a statement. “Survivors have to sign a never-ending nondisclosure agreement just to start the complaint process, which is unheard of in the private sector, then continue to work in their office alongside their harasser.”

The money comes from a special U.S. Treasury fund – and the payouts are kept quiet. That means, those found to be at fault are publicly shielded and don’t have to pay a penny out of pocket for settlement costs.

Some of you may remember in the 1990’s the House banking scandal. In 1992 it was revealed (meaning Congress got caught) that members of Congress were allowed to write bad checks though the house bank and not made to reimburse. The scandal was labeled “rubbergate” but this was not accurate because the checks were not allowed to bounce, they were covered by taxpayer money.

The House banking scandal ultimately involved more than 450 representatives, most of whom did not break any laws. Twenty-two congressmen and -women were singled out by the House Ethics Committee for leaving their checking accounts overdrawn for at least eight months out of a sample of 39 months.

The following 22 House members were singled out by the House Ethics Committee.

Congressional scandal is happening all the time. They just do not always get caught. Middle class people go into Congress and come out millionaires. How does that happen. Congress passes laws like Obamacare with a mandate that we buy the crappy insurance. Then they make sure there is a provision for a different program they live by. The sexual harassment Congressional scandal is just the latest.
